Saturday sport: Kilkenny beat Dublin to retain Leinster hurling crown for fifth time in a row

Kilkenny are Leinster senior hurling champions for the fifth year in a row.

The Cats defeated Dublin by 3-28 to 1-18 in a one-sided affair at Croke Park.

TJ Reid scored two goals for Kilkenny and Eoin Cody grabbed the other.

Kilkenny are now into the All Ireland semi-final.

Earlier, Offaly won the Joe McDonagh Cup, beating Laois on a score line of 2-23 to 26 points.

The victory guarantees the Faithful County a place in the Leinster championship next season.

In the Tailteann Cup, Limerick defeated Tipperary by 1-18 to 1-10.

After the game, Paul Kelly stepped down as manager of Tipperary.

At the moment, it's Leitrim 1-7 Wicklow 1-4 at Pearse Park.

In the All Ireland Ladies Football Championship, Armagh beat Meath by 3-9 to 1-14 at the Athletic Grounds.

Athletics

Sarah Lavin competes for Ireland in the 100 metres hurdles final at the European Championships in Rome after 9pm.

The Limerick native won her semi final.

Israel Olatunde will bid to make tonight's 100 metre final – his semi-final is underway from 8.10pm.

Brian Fay is in men's 5000 metres action just before 9.30pm.

Earlier, relay gold medallist Chris O'Donnell booked his place in tomorrow's 400-metre semis.

Rugby

Leinster are into the United Rugby Championship semi finals.

They got the better of Ulster by 43-20 at the Aviva Stadium.

James Lowe scored two tries for Leinster, with their other tries coming from Robbie Henshaw, Jordan Larmour, Josh van der Flier and Ross Molony.

Leinster will now go to Pretoria in South Africa for the semi final to face the Bulls, who beat Benetton by 30-23 earlier.

Northampton won the Gallagher Premiership, defeating Bath by 25-21.

Tennis

Poland's Iga Swiatek has retained her French Open women's singles title.

She defeated Jasmine Paolini in straight sets (6-2, 6-1) in Paris.
