Launch event like mini version of main Streete Vintage Show
The launch of this year’s Streete Vintage Show was like a mini version of the main event, reported organiser Kevin Brady. It took place on Sunday week last at Murphy’s Crossroads Inn, Lisryan, and was a preview of the enduringly popular day in Streete, which is on Sunday June 30 this year.
Streete Vintage Show is about more than old vehicles – though they are, of course, the central attraction and the reason crowds attend the local community centre in large numbers, making the show one of the biggest in the midlands, even the country.
This is the 22nd year of all things vintage in Streete and the attractions include country music legend Johnny Brady and up-and-coming Longford country singer Bríd Shaughnessy plus other some special guests.
The launch in Lisryan enjoyed glorious sunshine and everyone enjoyed delicious burgers. Kevin Brady said: “We are delighted with the turnout, it’s great to see so many supporters making their way here, some from as far away as Castleblaney, County Monaghan, to enjoy our launch night.
“Streete Vintage Show is a date in the calendar not to be missed and I would kindly ask everyone to spread the word and to come along and support us. The weather hasn’t been kind to us for the last few years, but we have our local priest, Fr Pierre, saying Mass for us and the Child of Prague is out already in the hope the sun will shine.
“This year marks the 60th anniversary of the Massey Ferguson 100 series tractors, and we are holding a birthday bash. Special commemorative plaques for the best tractor on show and for the owners of unrestored or working examples will be awarded. I would like to thank Kevin Moore and Carol from Killucan Vintage Club, who will be helping us with the adjudication.”
Those at the launch also had a chance to view a replica of the self-propelled cart created by Leonardo da Vinci in 1478. Eamon Creamer of Creamer Engineering in Granard studied sketches of one of da Vinci’s most interesting works and constructed the model of what is wonderful piece of automotive history. It will feature at the vintage show at the end of June.
Tractor enthusiast Andy Clancy will also show off his rare, unrestored, Massey Ferguson 133, specially built for the Irish market, which will celebrate its 50th birthday on Streete vintage day.
Kevin said it is was fantastic to see the community coming together for the launch: “I’d like to thank Pauline and the legend Ray Montana who had the place rocking all night, the lads who cooked the wonderful burgers and everyone who donated raffle prizes, came out to support us tonight. The raffle raised €500 which will go to BUMBLEance Children’s Ambulance Service.
“Our show has become a hugely popular annual event – for many, it offers a warm and friendly place to meet up, and for others it’s a great day out for kids and parents alike. Streete Vintage Show is on Sunday June 30, a day not to be missed. We just pray now that the weather will stay warm and rain free.”
