Gaelscoil an Choillín celebrate Euro diversity with Blue Star Programme

Gaelscoil an Choillín was a vibrant hub of language and culture as the school launched its the Blue Star Project. Students from Rang 3 and Rang 4 had been diligently preparing for the event, which showcases European arts, cuisine, and languages.

The Blue Star Project aims to immerse students in the rich cultural tapestry of Europe, fostering an appreciation for the diverse heritage of the continent, and the two classes hosted an event that invited parents, teachers, and Peter Burke, TD, Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment to experience first hand the fruits of their labour.

Attendees were treated to a delightful array of European foods and viewed a variety of student-created artworks.

The school, where the Irish language is predominantly spoken, buzzed with the sounds of Polish, Lithuanian, Portuguese, Italian, and other European languages, transforming some classrooms into multilingual environments.

“The enthusiasm and dedication of our students in embracing and celebrating the diversity of European cultures have been truly inspiring,” said school principal Lorraine Ní Sceallaigh.

“The Blue Star Project not only enriches their educational experience but also promotes a spirit of inclusivity and mutual respect.”

Gaelscoil an Choillín’s commitment to fostering a multilingual and multicultural environment was evident throughout the event, highlighting the importance of understanding and valuing the different cultures that make up the European Union.
