Refugee meet up happening in Barracks on Saturday

Members of the public are invited to join asylum seekers and refugees for a meet-up event at Columb Barracks this Saturday, June 22.

The event, organised by Mullingar 4 All and CATU Midlands, will be held at 4:30pm in Block E, home to the town’s Ukrainian Hub.

Described as a "solidarity event," it will feature round-table discussions over tea, coffee, and snacks, along with music, board games, and a cultural showcase.

Currently, the Barracks accommodates around 100 asylum seekers in tented housing and 100 Ukrainians in modular units.

Residents have been invited to share their migration experiences and highlight their cultures at the event.

Mullingar 4 All encourages attendees to bring refreshments such as cookies, cupcakes, and cakes.

They also plan to host a “potluck-style dinner” at the Barracks in September and are seeking assistance from local businesses for this future event.
