McDaniel retains cathaoirleach role in new council

The outgoing cathaoirleach of Westmeath County Council, Liam McDaniel (FF), has been selected by his colleagues to retain the role in the new council.

The new leas-cathaoirleach is Mick Dollard (Ind), who is 40 years a member of the council this year.

This is the first time since 1977/78 that the same person has served as cathaoirleach for two years in a row. That time, it was James O'Brien.
