National karate championships to take place in Moate this weekend

The World United Karate Federation (WUKF) Ireland national championships are being hosted by Sensei Patrick Beaumont, from St Mary's Karate Club, Athlone, tomorrow (Saturday, June 22) in Moate Community Centre.

This is the first time that the championships have ever been held in the Midlands, and karate clubs from all across Ireland will be attendance to compete for national honours.

Everyone involved with the Athlone club is really looking forward to welcoming the competing teams and supporters this weekend. A large attendance is expected at the event which will give a boost to local businesses.

Cllr Keena, the president of St Mary's Karate Club, extended his best wishes to all the members of the club who will be participating in this tournament.

He also thanked Sensei Beaumont for bringing the event to Moate.
