Kevin Nolan keeps rollin' to Coghlan Cup success

Mullingar Bowls Club notes

Proving himself to be one of the most consistent performers the club has seen, the irrepressible Kevin Nolan clinched another major title last weekend when picking up the John D Coghlan Perpetual Singles crown.

In a wonderful climax to the club's premier competition, Kevin withstood the determined challenge of Mark Foran.

Unfortunately, Mark got off to the worst possible start when conceding four shots in the opening end. While many other players might have collapsed, Mark pinned his ears back and battled back.

Indeed by the eighth of ten ends, Mark had managed to get his nose in front and had every chance of claiming victory.

But Kevin has enough experience of pressured situations and he found the right deliveries in the final ends to claim a thrilling victory.

Saturday's decider was preceded by the Plate final. In another, ultimately, very tight affair John Fitzpatrick got off to a very steady start and looked on course for a handsome win.

However, his opponent, Joe Kincaid knuckled down and steadily worked his way back into the tie. He pinned John back but ultimately the latter's

experience carried him over the line.

The club was delighted to have our sponsor David Coghlan in attendance and he extended his family's gratitude to the members for perpetuating the memory of his brother, the late John D, our first Chairman.

A very enjoyable supper brought down the curtain on a very successful bowls season.
