Streete revving up for 22nd edition of vintage show

Next Sunday, June 30, is the date in the calendar the enthusiastic vintage vehicle community have been waiting for – the annual Streete Vintage Show.

Streete Vintage Show always has lots to see and do, alongside the huge displays of vintage cars, tractors, lorries, and machinery, and the local club ask everyone to tell their friends, near and far, to come along and support it.

They promise a great line-up of jiving music plus the master of country music Johnny Brady live on stage from 1pm till around 3pm, and also on stage by popular request, the talented Bríd Shaughnessy, as well as special guests.

Including in the vintage display this year – the 22nd edition of the event – the organisers are marking the diamond anniversary of the Massey Ferguson 100 series tractor. They will have a special commemorative plaque for the best tractor on show and one for the owners of unrestored or working examples as well, and they have expressed thanks to Kevin Moore and Carol from Killucan vintage club for helping with the adjudication.

The Streete vintage club hosted a launch event at Murphy’s Crossroads Inn, Lisryan on June 2 last, and supporters travelled from as far away as Castleblaney County Monaghan. Also present was a replica of the vehicle invented by Leonardo da Vinci in 1478. Eamon Creamer, of Creamer Engineering, Granard had studied sketches from one of Leonardo’s most interesting works and reconstructed a wonderful piece of automotive history, which will feature at the show on Sunday.

Tractor enthusiast Andy Clancy will also show off his rare Massey Ferguson 133, a tractor specially built for the Irish market, west of the Shannon. This beautiful unrestored machine will celebrate its 50th birthday on show day.

Club chairperson Kevin Brady thanked the owners and family who came out to support the launch, Ray Montana, who supplied the music, the team who cooked the burgers and everyone who donated raffle prizes. The raffle raised €500 for the BUMBLEance Children’s Ambulance Service.

Kevin pointed out that the weather hasn’t been kind to them in the last few years, but they have asked local priest Fr Pierre to pray for a dry day, and Child of Prague is out too, so they are hoping for the best.
