Oakcrest tired of feeling blue

A blue hoarding erected at the entrance to Oakcrest is causing frustration among residents of the area, Cllr Ken Glynn told the executive of the county council at its monthly meeting in Mullingar on Friday of last week, June 21.

“This is not something that has not been raised here before,” he said as he explained that because of the hoarding, the grass in the area cannot be cut and the Municipal District has to send staff up to do the work.

“This is totally unfair on the Oakcrest Residents Association and residents in that area in general as there are numerous issues,” he said, going on to ask when the development there was going to be completed.

If nothing is to happen there, he said, he suggested that the billboard be removed and that the ground be used to provide much-needed parking spaces for the residents.

“It’s absolutely unbelievable that that blue hoarding is there as one of our entry points to Mullingar,” he said.

Jackie Finney, housing officer at Westmeath County Council, said she was aware of the issue at Oakcrest and that the council are currently engaged with the landlord there in order to find a solution.

“It is in our plans to do something on that,” she said.
