If you know of any individuals or groups from the community that deserve to be acknowledged for their work, look no further than this year’s Westmeath Examiner Community and Sports Awards, which aim to reward excellence across the county.

Entries are free and can be made online here.

The first community-oriented award is for Social Enterprise of the Year, sponsored by Westmeath County Council, aimed at those who use their businesses to maximise profits and benefits to society and the environment all at once.

The Club of the Year award is for clubs, whether community- or sports-based, who seek to enhance local lives.

We are also seeking nominations for the Carer of the Year, an individual who may be under-recognised for their efforts, but one who goes above and beyond the call of duty to care for others.

The Unsung Hero award is aimed at individuals who prefer to remain in the background and are on a mission to make their community a better place – for the love of it.

Nominations are also open for sports categories, which include Young Sports Star of the Year, which aims to celebrate the dedication, commitment, and talent of emerging sporting stars in the county. The Outstanding Achievement of the Year award is for those who might not win the gold medals, but put in immense effort in their and are ideal ambassadors for sport in their communities.

The Hall of Fame award celebrates those who have made an outstanding contribution to their communities and have been leaders in promoting sports participation. The Team of the Year award is open to all clubs in the county, regardless of sport, that have served their club, school, or community with distinction and deserve recognition for it.

If anyone comes to mind as the perfect beneficiary of one of these awards, make sure to nominate them before this week’s deadline.
