Second fatal accident within 24 hours in Castlepollard area

Gardaí and emergency services are currently at the scene of a fatal two-vehicle road traffic collision involving cars that occurred on the R394 at Gartlandstown, Castlepollard.

The collision occurred at approximately 5.30am today, Wednesday July 3.

The male passenger of the first car (aged in his 80s) was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The female driver (60s) was conveyed to Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore hospital for treatment for serious injuries.

The male driver of the second car (30s) was conveyed to Midland Regional Hospital Mullingar for treatment for injuries believed to be non-life-threatening at this time.

The male passenger (20s) was conveyed to Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore hospital for injuries believed to be non-life-threatening at this time.

The road is currently closed for technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the R394 between Mullingar and Castlepollard between 4.45am and 5.45am this morning, Wednesday 3 July, are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.

Teevrevagh

Gardaí are also investigating a single-vehicle fatal road traffic collision involving a car that occurred on the R395 at Teevrevagh, Castlepollard.

At approximately 6.40pm yesterday, 2 July, gardaí were alerted to a vehicle which had collided with a roadside ditch.

The male driver of the car, aged in his 50s and sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The R395 at Teevrevagh, Castlepollard was closed for a technical examination by Forensic Collision Investigators.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to come forward.

Any road users who have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the Teevrevagh area are asked to make it available to Gardaí.
