Westmeath host U10 football and hurling Super Games
U10 Super Games
All U10 footballers and hurlers enjoyed outings in TEG Cusack Park as part of the U10 Super Games initiative, and some 640 kids got to display their skills in the home of Westmeath GAA across six evenings over two weeks.
Many thanks to staff members Emmet Corrigan and Bernie Corroon for organising and coordinating, to Cusack Park for hosting, and to all the mentors and parents who helped with the smooth running of the whole event.
Development Squad Fixtures Saturday 6 July
U16 Hurling: Laois vs Westmeath, Laois Venue, Time TBC
U15 Hurling: John Doyle Group 4: Dublin vs Westmeath, Dublin Venue, Time TBC.
U14 Hurling: Two Westmeath teams are back in blitz action this Saturday in Abbotstown, with two teams each from Kildare and Antrim providing the opposition. At the time of writing, the times of fixtures had yet to be confirmed.
Leinster Poc Fada
Westmeath had representatives in both the U16 and Senior competitions last Saturday on Mount Leinster in Carlow. With heavy fog and rain, conditions for both competitions were extremely difficult. Daire Fagan of Castletown-Geoghegan finished a credible 4th in the U16 competition, whilst Ringtown’s Pat Burke came 3rd in the senior. Unfortunately, for Pat he missed out on qualification for the All Ireland Final by one puck, with the top two qualifying for the Cooley Mountains. Well done to both our representatives in the competition.
Cul Camps
With the Cul Camps starting this week, all new coaches underwent training in Tyrrellspass last week. Athlone, Caulry, Cullion, Mullingar Shamrocks and The Downs will host camps this week.
