Local athletes successfully complete '4x4x48 Challenge'
The four members of local triathlon clubs who began a '4x4x48 Challenge' at 4pm on Friday last finished it, tired but happy, on Saturday.
Gary Loughrey, Ambrose Duggan, David Jordan and Jamie Rosney ran four miles every four hours for 48 hours.
Ambrose said: “The event challenged even the seasoned athletes among us, and that was especially true when it came to the runs at 4am.
“Each of us thoroughly enjoyed the event as much as possible, and we encouraged each other along the way.
“Nearly €4000 has been raised for the Westmeath Hospice in Athlone and we would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that sponsored us along the way and sent us messages of encouragement.”
The GoFundMe page is open till Friday at 5pm, and the four runners will then be looking forward to handing over the funds to the charity.
