Mullingar Town Band to host 2024 IMBA Championships
Mullingar Town Band host the 2024 (IMBA) Irish Marching Band Association Championships at St Loman’s GAA club on Sunday July 21.
The competition takes place on the main field between 2 and 4pm. Entry is free of charge and band members are looking forward to filling the stand with local support for this important competition.
Taking part will be Portarlington Marching Band, Inbhear Mór Cadets, the Tallaght Marching Band, Current Champions Inbhear Mór Performance Ensemble and Mullingar Town Bands Celtic Crusaders.
The band wish to thanks St Loman’s Football club for facilitating the event and the work they have done in preparing the venue. There will be a shop open on the day.
Mullingar town band have recently returned from a successful tour to the (WAMSB) World Association of Marching Show Bands Championship in Rastede, Germany, where they placed 12th in Parade and 12th in Show marching for their show ‘Elvis’.
There were a total of 85 bands entered across all competitions. Entry to the world championships is only open to bands who have competed in WAMSB regional competitions and gained the required standard. This is the first time since the resumption of IMBA Championships post Covid that Mullingar have entered a full Field Show, having concentrated on the Miscellaneous Marching Band Competition in the 2022 and 2023 Fleadh Cheoil in Mullingar, winning Gold and Silver medals. In doing so, Mullingar Town Band became the only band to win All Ireland titles in Concert, Marching and Traditional Band championships in Ireland.
