Praxis Care marks 40 years

Leading social care charity Praxis Care held a garden party at Knockdrin, Mullingar, transforming the area into a vibrant celebration. The organisation turned 40 on July 3, marking four decades of service and support for individuals with mental ill health, learning disabilities, autism and dementia

Praxis Care provide both residential and day services in the Mullingar area.

The event brought together the people Praxis Care supports, their families and friends, staff and the local community. Attendees enjoyed a variety of activities including entertainment from Fred the Party Professors, ice-cream van from Gridlock Events Catering, music, outdoor games raffle, food provided by Juice Zone Mullingar and cupcakes provided by Sprinkles and Slices, Mullingar. Jamie Lee O’Herron, an individual supported by Praxis Care in Mullingar Day Service, also provided entertainment to the group by performing one of his favourite songs.

The party was hosted by three services Mullingar Day Service, Mullingar Residential and Cavan Ard na Greine, organised by the respective managers Megan McCormack and Pamela Monaghan, with the support of their staff teams and individuals they support.

Individuals attending the event were delighted to be transported by the local garda community bus, facilitated by Community Garda Fiona Walsh. Art volunteer Aoife Wims supported the individuals supported by Praxis Care to create a mural and friendship tree to mark the milestone.

In attendance was Robert Troy, TD, who stated: “I am delighted to be invited to part of the 40th celebrations. Praxis provide invaluable service here to residents and to families.” Cllr Julie McCourt was also in attendance for the event.

Praxis Care director of Care and Development ROI, Amanda Gray, reflected on the changes in Praxis Care over the years: “We have seen much changes and improvement in the last 40 years in social care.

“Individualised care and support is the expectation and standard and we are proud to work alongside the people who use our services, their families and communities to support people in the way they choose to reach their potential, and fulfil their hopes and dreams.

“Looking ahead, we remain committed to being an innovative organisation that has the people we support at the forefront and in 40 years’ time, I have no doubt that our services will have grown in all of the areas we work, all over Ireland, but they will continue to empower lives that are valued, meaningful and inclusive for the people we work with, every day.”

This event was just one in a series of 40 celebrations taking place this summer across Ireland, the UK and the Isle of Man to mark the anniversary. Each event aims to bring together the local community and celebrate the remarkable achievements of Praxis Care over the 40 years.

The three host services would like to send their gratitude to local businesses for the generosity in donations: Mullingar Park Hotel; Shaws Hardware, Mullingar; Woods Pharmacy, Mullingar; Esquires Café, Mullingar; Resident Adrian Costelloe, Mullingar Residential.
