Dozens complete Lynne Algar Memorial Swim at Lough Ennell

Several dozen people completed the 4.4km distance of the Lynne Algar Lough Ennell Memorial Swim on Sunday, and dozens more turned out to support the event.

The swim was a fundraiser for Brain Tumour Ireland, and it took place a couple of days before Lynne’s 40th birthday (July 31), and on the day her children Aille and Nuada celebrated their seventh birthday.

Jenny organised the swim in honour of her late sister, and her other sister, Niamh, her brothers Ken and John, and their mother and father Angela and Dave were present on the day to take part in and to support the event.

Members of the Mullingar Jets, the Midland Tri Club, and Mullingar Canoe Club took part and were on duty on the water in kayaks as marshals.

The conditions for the swim were excellent and the participants covered the distance in between an hour and 10 minutes and around an hour and a half.

JP O’Brien, a member of the tri club, said he helped out with the safety side of the event and he also did the swim. He said Lynne, who passed away in March, was a keen athlete and club member, and the huge amount of support from friends and family and local clubs that she was involved with was a tribute to her.

The family had previously done the swim themselves, and this year they decided to make it a fundraiser.
