Olympics latest: Adeleke into 400m final, Jack Woolley misses out on medal chance

Athletics

Rhasidat Adeleke is through to the Olympic 400-metre final.

The Tallaght sprinter was second in her semi-final, running a time of 49.95 seconds.

Her semi was won by Bahrain’s Salwa Eid Naser, a former world champion who has since served a doping ban.

There will be medals won tonight in the Women’s 3000-metre steeplechase, the men’s 400m, the women’s pole vault, and men’s discus.

Taekwondo

Jack Woolley will return from Paris without a medal.

The Tallaght native was beaten in his bronze medal repêchage bout by Spain’s Adrian Vicente Yunta.

That followed a last-16 defeat for Wolley to Gashim Magomedov of Azerbaijan.

Sailing

Carlow’s Finn Lynch finished eighth in the medal race of the Men’s Dinghy this afternoon.

That left him tenth overall.

Golf

It was a disastrous opening to the Women's Golf for Stephanie Meadow and Leona Maguire.

Both carded 6 over par rounds of 78 at Le Golf National.

France’s own Celine Boutier is the clubhouse leader on 7 under.

Swimming

The Seine looks set to be passed fit for the upcoming marathon swims.

Daniel Wiffen was among a host of swimmers to acclimatise themselves with the river on Wednesday morning, after training was cancelled yesterday due to pollution fears.

Wiffen’s 10k swim is scheduled to begin early on Friday morning.
