Seanie (67) not hanging up the boots yet!

Veteran sporting campaigner Seanie Monaghan has struck again.

Having togged out for Shamrocks in a Offaly Hurling League Division 4 game against Seir Kieran last May, 67-year-old Seanie played in the Kieran Coyne memorial match at Clara Town FC on Sunday last.

It was a real family affair at Stanley O'Hara Park with the irrepressible Seanie playing alongside his sons, Ian and Brian Monaghan, and his grandsons, Dion and Keelyn Conroy.

Therefore, there were three generations in action as Seanie passes on his sporting legacy. Dion and Keelyn are sons of Seanie's daughter, Michelle Monaghan.

The Kieran Coyne memorial match is an annual event with teams picked on the day between current and past club members of Clara Town.

Last Sunday's game ended on a 3-3 scoreline, with Stephen 'Ski' Deehan chosen as the man of the match. Indeed, this accolade went to Seanie in the 2019 match when he was a mere 62 years old!

Also in action last Sunday was Seanie's former comrade-in-arms Seanie Buckley, who was joined by his grandson Brian Buckley.

Monaghan and Buckley were part of the Ballycumber Rovers team which won the coveted Counties Cup in 2000. At that time, the two Seanies were just 40-something youngsters!
