Moate estate to represent Westmeath in Pride of Place competition

Mount Carmel Drive in Moate has been chosen to represent Westmeath in the housing estates category of this year's national Pride of Place Awards.

The annual competition recognises the efforts and dedication of local communities across Ireland.

The Pride of Place judges assessing Mount Carmel Drive's nomination will be given a presentation in the Carmelite Pastoral Centre in Moate at 10am next Wednesday (August 21).

This will be followed by a tour of the estate itself.

On Wednesday afternoon the judges will remain on in Moate to assess Dun na Sí Amenity & Heritage Park, which has been nominated as Westmeath's representative in the 'community tourism initiative' category.

Elsewhere in the county, Clonmellon Tidy Towns has been nominated to represent Westmeath in the '300 -1,000 Population' category of the competition.

This year marks the 22nd consecutive year of the Pride of Place awards, which are organised by the peacebuilding charity Co-operation Ireland and sponsored by IPB Insurance.

The awards ceremony will take place in the Hillgrove Hotel in Monaghan on Saturday, November 2.
