Sweet success as €461 raised for children’s cancer charity
In a heartwarming display of community spirit, two young girls from Rochfortbridge have raised an impressive €461 for Aoibheann's Pink Tie Children's Cancer Charity. On July 26, Kate Moran and her cousin Alyssa Moran, with the help of their friend Ella Farrell, set up a sweet stall at The Sycamores in their village to raise funds for the worthy cause.
The 'Imagine That Sweets and Treats' event proved a wonderful success as the girls' sweet stall quickly became a hit, drawing support from neighbours and passers-by alike. Sweets, crisps, buns and soft drinks were on sale, as were bracelets and fidgets. Their efforts were rewarded with a substantial sum, which they have proudly donated to Aoibheann's Pink Tie, a charity close to their hearts. The charity, founded in 2010 by Mick Rochford and Jimmy Norman, was established in memory of Jimmy’s daughter, Aoibheann, who tragically passed away from a rare form of cancer at just eight years old.
Kate, Alyssa, and Ella wish to extend their heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported their fundraising activity, whether by purchasing sweets or making donations. Special thanks go to Paddy Ryan of Rycon Construction and David Lynam of David Lynam Construction for their generous contributions.
Aoibheann's Pink Tie has grown to become a vital lifeline for families affected by childhood cancer. Initially set up to support one family at a time, the charity has since expanded its reach, providing assistance to thousands of families across Ireland. The charity’s name originated from Aoibheann’s funeral, where friends and family wore pink ties in her memory - a symbol that now represents hope and support for countless families facing similar battles.
The girls’ initiative not only raised funds but also brought attention to the ongoing need for support for families dealing with childhood cancer, reminding us all of the impact that small acts of kindness can have.
It's the second year Kate and Alyssa have held an event - in 2023 they held a successful fundraiser for Crumlin children's hospital.
