Ceólminers lined up for Mary O'Brien benefit night at Mullingar Shamrocks
The Ceólminers, two support acts and DJ Karl McLoughlin are lined up for a benefit night in aid of Mary O’Brien. It takes place on Saturday August 31 at Mullingar Shamrocks GAA Club (doors 7pm, music from 8pm).
Mary is a 46-year-old mother from Castlepollard, where she lives with her partner Shane greville and children Olivia, Dermot, Kira, Ruby, Lucy Mai, and Jack (age 4). Mary is and also grandmother to a Ronnie (age 3).
Mary was first diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2022 and since then has undergone multiple surgeries and chemotherapy and radiation. She was later diagnosed with a rare form of cancer and has small tumors along the lining of her stomach – too many to count and too many to remove.
She is hoping that surgery in Germany can remove her stomach completely, but there is huge cost involved. A GoFundMe page has raised some €24,000 of a €31,000 target, so there is a way to go still, and that is where the benefit night at Mullingar Shamrocks comes in.
One of the organisers said: "Come join us for a special evening at Mullingar Shamrocks GAA Club to support Mary in her battle against cancer. Let’s come together as a community to show our love and help raise funds for her treatment.
"There will be music, food, and a raffle with amazing prizes. Your presence will mean the world to Mary and her family. Let’s make this night one to remember!"
