Musician who performed at Andrea Bocelli 30th anniversary concert coming to Belvedere House

A young musician who performed at Andrea Bocelli’s 30th anniversary concert in Hyde Park, London is coming to Belvedere House next month.

Jamie Duffy, a 23-year-old from Glaslough, County Monaghan, has been making great strides in the music business since the release of his debut single Solas two years ago.

Having graced the stages of the National Concert Hall Studio and Belfast Grand Opera House Studio with four sold-out performances, Jamie played at Hyde Park as support act to the famous Italian tenor, Andrea Bocelli on Friday July 5.

Jamie was accompanied by the Irish musical quartet Bow Musique and they opened the set with his single piece ‘Realta‘, followed by ‘Into the West,’ a piece he said was influenced by the Famine of the 1840s.

For that piece, Jamie played both the piano and tin whistle as he explained to the audience the significance of the tin whistle to both music and culture in Ireland.

The Irish theme continued as Jamie performed ‘Resonance’, a piece which said was named by President Michael D Higgins after a performance he gave at Áras an Uachtaráin.

That was followed by the haunting single ‘Eyrie’, produced for Jamie by Swedish composer Peter Sandberg, who is known for his work on the cult TV series Stranger Things.

Jamie again nodded to his Monaghan and Ulster roots when, accompanied by Bow Musique, he gave a emotional rendition of ‘Raglan Road’ written by the famous Monaghan native Patrick Kavanagh.

He concluded his set with his most recent offering, ‘Torus’, and ‘Solas’, a piece he said has changed his life since its release in early 2022.

He said the success of Solas was instrumental in him being asked to perform in London at the Hyde Park Celebration concert with artists like Katherine Jenkins, Seal, Matteo Bocelli, Hans Zimmer and Andrea Bocelli.

Solas is the most streamed debut single by an Irish artist since Hozier’s Take me To Church, which was released in 2013. On Spotify, Solas has been streamed 83 million times.

Jamie is performing in London again on December 16 as part of his mini European autumn tour, which includes Belvedere House on September 7.

Tickets for the Belvedere House concert are available at eventbrite.ie and from Belvedere House.
