Hospice rocking horse raffle raises more than €4,500

The winner of the raffle for a beautiful wooden rocking horse, organised for and in aid of North Westmeath Hospice, say she will give it to her grandson.

Phil Kiernan was presented with her prize at the hospice office on Mary Street, Mullingar last Wednesday, but Harry Óg Gunning was unable to be present; he’s unable to manage the rocking horse for another while yet either, as he about to turn one year old.

The horse is made from oak, crafted in traditional style at Wheatfield Training Workshop, where they regularly carry out projects such as this, and donate their creations to various charities.

This year, they kindly gifted a rocking horse to North Westmeath Hospice, who were delighted to receive it.

Hospice members worked hard over the summer months selling lines for the raffle, both individually and at shopping centres in the locality.

The raffle was won by Phil, a local lady and an active member of Mullingar ICA.

A total of €4,650 was raised and these proceeds will go towards hospice palliative care services locally.

“Thank you to everyone who participated in the raffle,” said a spokesperson for the hospice committee.
