Participants from Mullingar, Ballymore and Clonmellon among those to receive NISO certs
Participants from Mullingar, Ballymore and Clonmellon were joined by others from Fermanagh and as far as Stockton on Tees, England, at the NISO Midland branch presentation of certificates in July.
NISO (National Irish Safety Organisation Limited) made the awards to those who had completed the Introduction to Occupational Health and Safety courses in the Hodson Bay hotel in Athlone.
TUS Athlone hosted two courses between September and December 2023 and again between February and May 2024. Eighteen participants successfully completed the courses including Aaron Dunne from Walshestown and Michael O’Flaherty from Ballymore.
Others were from Offaly, Galway, Fermanagh, Longford, Roscommon, Mayo, Tipperary, and Stockton on Tees. Three hotel managers from the Hodson Bay group and two managers from Udaras na Gaeltachta took part.
Others included employees from Arran Chemicals/Almac, Athlone, John Sisk Builders, Clare, Longford County Council, Dept of Education, Athlone, Air-Products UK and Ireland, Ernco-group, Fermanagh, Gaeltec Utilities, Mayo, Thomas Nolan and sons, Tipperary, McDermott’s pub, Doolin, Clare, Outspann Training, Clonmellon, DPD Athlone, UCHG, Galway and Streamstown Moulding Co, Mullingar.
Participants received their certificates from Philip Thornton, vice-president of NISO. John Henson represented NISO Midlands along with Dr Sean Reidy, (TUS and chairperson of NISO Midlands).
The course will run again this autumn, beginning on Monday September 16 in TUS Athlone.
A number of the participants are advancing onto the part-time Level 7 degree in EHS Management in the autumn in TUS.
