Body found in Royal Canal

A body was found in the Royal Canal in Mullingar over the weekend. The discovery was made along the stretch behind Market Point at midnight on Saturday, August 24.

Emergency services were alerted to the scene after a passer-by spotted the body floating in the water.

Gardaí, ambulance, and fire service personnel were all in attendance.

A man, believed to be in his 60s, was removed from the water and pronounced dead.

A garda spokesperson told the Westmeath Examiner that they are not treating the man’s death as suspicious.
