The Leaving Cert results of the Coláiste Mhuire Class of 2024 were “outstanding,” according to principal Keith Quinn.

Around 50 students gathered at the school last Friday, August 23, to share their results with friends and former teachers.

Mr Quinn said these were the best results the school has seen in recent years. “We’ve had quite a number of students score over 600 points this year, and quite a large number as well who achieved over the 500-point mark,” he said.

“But the way we always look at it, there was one young man who got 257 points, and that was absolutely massive for him.

“That was nearly the biggest success story. He had a very challenging year, and success for us is getting someone to reach their full potential.”

He said it’s been a “phenomenal year” of progress for students.

“We have some lads that we expect will receive academic scholarships based on the points they achieved,” said Mr. Quinn.

“At the core of it, it’s thanks to the lads engaging, working with staff, and committing to hard work.

“It’s been so positive for everyone – staff, students, and families.”

Mr Quinn also noted the role recent advances in the school curriculum have played. “We were part of the pilot computer science programme for the Leaving Cert, one of about 40 schools nationwide, and it’s been going really well since we returned from Covid,” he said.

“We have invested a lot here in hardware and software systems to enhance IT skills because even first years who come into the school this week, technology is second nature to them.

“We’ve probably invested over €100,000 in IT over the last three to four years, and the investment is paying off.

“We’re constantly reviewing our programme here, and we have our first Leaving Cert PE students going through the school at the moment,” Mr McHale said.
