CLUB OF THE YEAR FINALIST: Mullingar Community First Responders

Westmeath Examiner Community & Sports Awards

The Mullingar Community First Responders (CFR) are a dedicated group of volunteers who provide a vital service to the town. They are available 24 hours a day to assist the National Ambulance Service in responding to emergencies within a 10km radius of Mullingar. Established in 2020, Mullingar CFR have attended more than 350 emergency calls in the last year alone, offering rapid response in critical situations such as cardiac arrest, strokes and injuries.

The volunteers are all locals, enabling them to reach those in need quickly. They provide medical attention while keeping patients and their families calm during what can be extremely stressful situations.

The group go above and beyond in the service offered to the community, and regularly raise funds to establish more services. They’ve funded 15 public access defibrillators (AEDS) now installed through the town. They also offer free CPR and AED training to the public, including schools, empowering others with life-saving skills.
