Westmeath Examiner Community & Sports Awards

The Irish Road Victims Association (IRVA) are a national charity dedicated to providing crucial support to families affected by road crashes in Ireland. Based in Mullingar and operated entirely by volunteers, the IRVA offer free information, practical assistance, and emotional support to those affected by the tragic loss of a loved one on the roads. They are committed to preventing other families from experiencing such devastation.

IRVA services include a helpline (seven days a week), and online support group meetings that offer guidance in navigating through sudden and tragic losses. The charity also provide a comprehensive guide for families bereaved by road collisions, which is distributed nationwide by gardaí.

All services provided by the IRVA, including bereavement counselling, are free of charge. They rely on the fundraising efforts of members and families to continue delivering these essential services.

Each year, the IRVA bring more than 300 people to Mullingar for the World Day of Remembrance, an event that honours the memories of those lost, and raises public awareness about how to prevent more road crashes.

The IRVA collaborate with other stakeholders, nationally and locally, to reduce road dangers and make the roads safer for everyone.
