'Trust and connection at heart of Home Instead dementia care'

Home Instead are marking their participation in World Alzheimer’s Month by providing their care givers with access to accredited dementia care training. As part of the campaign, Home Instead will also launch an Activity Guide for care givers, offering a wide range of activities to engage the individuals they care for who are living with dementia.

A spokesperson for Home Instead said the approach focuses on building meaningful relationships with people living with dementia, enhancing their quality of life and helping them to live safe and well at home.

Danette Connolly, national clinical lead at Home Instead, said: “We understand the importance of training when it comes to providing dementia care at home, and that is why Home Instead offer our care givers accredited City and Guilds dementia care training through our Home Care Professionals Academy.

"This research-based training course puts the person’s dignity first and teaches practical skills to support people living with dementia in the many ways it can present.

“It’s important to remember that each person we care for is an individual and our care givers are trained to know how best to connect and care for them in a way that the person receiving care feels comfortable.

"This campaign highlights the fact that Home Instead value the individuals we care for, we value our care givers as skilled professionals, and we understand that meaningful lives are built through trusting relationships.”
