Westmeath Camogie Round-up

Clonkill advanced with a ten-point win over Crookedwood in a game which saw sisters Meadbh and Muireann Scally captain each side. The Wood, despite going down to a defeat, still overcame Lough Lene Gaels in the table and so are rewarded with a shot at the kingpins, Raharney. The Gaels took on and overcame Castletown-Geoghegan, who put up a strong display of battling camogie when needed. The Black and Amber now face into a survival decider against Delvin, with the Gaels awaiting their opponents from senior B as one of the potential suitors is the winner of the relegation game.

Group 2 pacesetters, Raharney, cemented their unbeaten streak with victory over St Brigid’s. Drumraney’s success over St Munna’s means they join the Deelsiders in the senior semi-finals. Brigid’s and Munna’s now enter senior B and will be hopeful of contesting for silverware by next month’s finals

Brownstown could not be stopped as they blitzed Clonkill with a flurry of goals. The green and gold, however, were not to be overawed and responded with ten points of their own when many a team would have simply downed tools. Louise O’Connor, a shining star for many seasons, was the Brownstown dynamic forward on the scoreboard. Southern Gaels continue to be a hugely positive story in Westmeath camogie this season, with many noting their upbeat approach to their development as a club. While beaten by Cullion, the Athlone side showed spirit and heart in their endeavours. Cullion now must look ahead to a crunch battle with 2023 finalists, Castlepollard. Darren McCormack’s side will no doubt be looking to avenge the loss last year and going one better this time

All in Westmeath Camogie would like to congratulate all teams who competed in the U12, U14, and U16 county finals recently. Speedy recovery also to Castletown’s Grace Gallagher after her injury last week. No doubt she will be flying fit again soon.

Westmeath Camogie U12 Mini League Finals Day

Last Saturday saw the culmination of the Westmeath U12 Camogie Mini League season with the gathering of teams from all fifteen clubs across the county in Coralstown-Kinnegad GAA for a day of action-packed fun in the sun. Across three pitches, all sides played in front of packed stands representing their clubs in an annual occasion for the county. Everyone at Westmeath Camogie would like to extend heartfelt thanks to all the clubs, players, mentors, coaches, parents, the Westmeath Camogie Executive, Kinnegad for the facilities, and all supporters who attended. Special mention also to our referees – Caoimhe McGee, Maeve Scally, Rebecca Daly, and Aideen Langtry – all of whom are part of the Westmeath Referee Academy. We hope every club had an amazing day and thank you all for being involved.
