Just days to go till Ploughing

With just a week to go until one of Europe’s largest outdoor events, preparations in Ratheniska, are taking shape as a green field transforms into the hub that will become Ploughing 2024 on September 17, 18 and 19.

At the official launch, media and special guests had a preview of what to expect as they were entertained by performers from Laois and prize-winning animals, quality machines, fashion, horses and hounds were on display.

Recent crowned World Ploughing Champions Jer Coakley, West Cork and Eamonn Tracey, Carlow were greeted with great applause as they arrived at the launch adorned with medals and trophies.

NPA MD Anna May McHugh said: “The championships provide a national stage for showcasing all things agricultural, and bring together people from all sectors of Irish society, rural and urban, to enjoy three days immersed in country living.”

There will be millions of euro worth of agricultural machinery on display featuring cutting-edge technology and equipment. The leading manufacturers and agents will be present with sales advisors and technical experts available for free consultations.

There has already been huge interest in the ‘Machine of the Year’ competition.

Visitors can admire the quality livestock on display and learn about livestock management, genetics, nutrition and healthcare.

An unprecedented number of diverse and exciting businesses will exhibit at the Local Enterprise Village at this year’s Ploughing, and the Enterprise Ireland Innovation Arena returns.

The Ploughing is a haven for foodies, as all sectors of the food chain are represented from producer to retailer, artisan foods, craft beers, celebrity chefs, cookery competitions and more.

In the ploughing stakes, the addition of the European Vintage Championships on Tuesday and Wednesday is attracting participants and followers from England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Belgium, and Germany. More than 300 competitors will be ploughing over the three days.

Favourite attractions return this year, such as fashion shows, sheep shearing, hunt chase, fun fair, food trail, craft demonstrations, pony games, live music and dancing, vintage ploughing, threshing, fun fair, loy digging, and expect to find celebrities and well known faces everywhere this year’s Ploughing.
