Soroptimists put autumn focus on getting new members
Soroptimist Mullingar and District held their first meeting after their summer break in the Greville Arms Hotel on Tuesday September 3, when they reflected on an enjoyable summer outing to Howth. There, they spent a day sightseeing, shopping, chatting and having fun before taking the train back to Mullingar that evening.
This year they will focus on growing their membership and bringing in new members to the club. The club usually has a membership number of around 30. Soroptimists are all about friendship with like-minded women, building social connectivity, while as a group deciding on what to do to improve the lives of women and girls.
Members meet once a month, currently on the first Tuesday.
In the wider context, Soroptimist Mullingar is part of the global voluntary organisation of Soroptimist International and is a member of the United Nations. Locally it is the members together that decide what activities they wish to take on and what they can do to improve the lives of women and girls locally, nationally and internationally. Initiatives focus on people, the planet, peace, partnership and prosperity.
There are many opportunities for women as Soroptimists, and members can decide whatever level of involvement suits them at different times of their lives.
If you are looking at making new friendships or getting involved in some activities for the community with like-minded women, come along to the Soroptimist Meet and Greet evening on Wednesday September 25 in the Greville Arms Hotel at 7.30pm. All are welcome.
