‘Art is for everyone’, says owner of new studio at Crookedwood

‘Mr Mullingar’ – Millie Walsh – had the honour of opening Westmeath newest art space, Devine Art Studio in Crookedwood.

A large group joined owners Caithriona and Ollie Devine for the opening of the studio on Saturday week last, September 21. A unique space, the facility consists of three large studio rooms, a kitchen, and disability toilet. A large selection of original paintings adorn the walls.

In his speech before he cut the ribbon, Millie entertained the guests with his witty comments. A fan of Caithriona’s artwork, the recently retired businessman spoke about how he used to sell her cards in his shop at the Dublin Bridge in Mullingar. Other speakers at the event included Andrea Corroon from Westmeath Community Development, Deputy Robert Troy and Cllr Emily Wallace.

Addressing the large crowd of well wishers, Caithriona thanked them for coming and “making the evening a memorable one”. She also outlined the array of workshops, camps and classes that the studios provides, such as painting, mosaics, floral arrangement, chocolate making and creative writing.

She emphasised that “art is for everyone and no experience is needed”.

“Trained tutors will ensure that your day will be an unforgettable one, you will bring home your very own masterpiece,” she said.

The Devine Art Studio also specialises in corporate team building days, private parties and social club events. Artisan lunch, dessert, nibbles and refreshments are included in the workshops. In spring the team will also run wellbeing retreats of yoga, Tai chi and mindfulness.
