'No building for a museum'

Mullingar doesn’t at present have any building or site suitable for use as a museum, according to the executive of the Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad.

The statement was made in a written response to a motion submitted to the district’s September meeting by Cllr Emily Wallace.

Cllr Wallace’s motion proposed that the district identify a building or suitable site for a museum and include it within the draft Mullingar Area Plan so that funding can be allocated for a feasibility study.

The response from the executive started out by stating that clarity was required in relation to the type of museum proposed.

“There are no available council-owned properties within Mullingar that would be appropriate for this type of project,” it continued.

On a more positive note, the response stated that through the county heritage officer, the district could assist with a community initiative, subject to funding.
