Kilbeggan Hereford breeder says more to come from Newland Gino

A Kilbeggan Hereford breeder has had a successful summer on the show circuit this year exhibiting his stylish young bull.

The highlight was when Hugh Peter Murray’s from bull Newland Gino was crowned Supreme National Hereford Male Champion and National Pedigree Registered Hereford Bull of the Year 2024 at Tullamore Show.

The bull is a 13-month-old son of Allowdale Rambo 475.

“It was a show season I will never forget,” said Hugh Peter. “I started off in Athlone, where Gino was crowned overall champion. He then went on to win Overall Champion and North Leinster Hereford Bull of the Year at the Oldcastle show and followed that with Young Hereford Bull of the Year at the North Tipp Show 2024.

“To top it all off, I had one of the best days I have ever had in a show ring in Tullamore when I won young bull of the year and overall male champion,” said Hugh.

Hugh Peter is a craft butcher by trade and runs the Hugh Murray and Son family butchers in Kilbeggan with his parents Hugh and Margaret.

This year was an extra special show season for Hugh as he had his one-year-old daughter Paige join him and his wife Kerrie to the shows for the first time. “And business [for Newland Gino] isn’t finished yet,” said Hugh Peter.

The judge at the National Hereford Show 2024 was Robert Wilson from Romany Herefords, Scotland.
