Mullingar U16 boys secure convincing win over Longford

Mullingar RFC delivered a commanding performance on Saturday September 28, defeating Longford 62-7 in an away fixture. From the first whistle, Mullingar took control, as Liam scored a try just 30 seconds in. Luke’s successful conversion set the early tone, giving Mullingar a 7-0 lead in the opening minute.

Longford failed to convert an early penalty opportunity, and Mullingar continued to pile on pressure. Strong runs from Callum, Fionn, Isaac, and Ian kept the home side on the back foot, and Dylan then finished a well-placed kick from Liam in the corner. Luke made no mistake with the conversion, stretching the lead to 14-0 after 12 minutes.

Mullingar’s dominance continued throughout the first half, Charlie Keegan powering over the line from a lineout and Owen Riley crossing shortly after. Longford managed to respond with a converted try before half-time, leaving the score at 26-7 to Mullingar at the break.

There was no let-up from Mullingar in the second half as Fionn Ceary scored a try three minutes in. Luke and Charlie continued to add points from conversions as the visitors remained in control. Tries from Cathal, Ian Orme, Godwin, and two late scores from Callum rounded out the victory. The win marks another impressive result as the club celebrates 100 years of rugby in the community.

Final score: Longford 7 – 62 Mullingar.
