Mullingar Shamrocks making final push for land purchase

Crunch time has arrived, according to Mullingar Shamrocks, and the completion date for the purchase of land at Robinstown is approaching.

In a social media post yesterday, the local GAA club said that almost €120,000 has been raised so far, and a further €30,000 has been pledged in recent days.

The club have less than two weeks in which to raise €250,000 so they can achieve GAA approval for the purchase and for loan facilities.

The balance of the purchase fees will be a mixture of GAA grants and borrowings.

Government grants Shamrocks were recently awarded cannot be used for land purchase.

In the statement the club said: “In addition to those who have already donated, several more members, friends and supporters have pledged their financial support since the time of proposed purchase.

“The time has now come to deliver on the pledge and anyone interested in supporting the project, we ask that you make contact with our chairperson David Nohilly, or any member of the executive, to make arrangements.”

PAYE taxpayers can complete the Tax Relief for Donations to an Approved Sports Body so that their contributions increase, by up to 40 per cent. Also, business donations can be written off against tax.
