Bar worker ‘likely’ to face further feud related charges
A part-time bar worker accused of the attempted murder of a man in Mullingar two months ago could face further charges, a court has heard.
Michael Nevin Jnr (39) with an address at Grange Heights, Mullingar, has been in custody since August 7 after being denied District Court, and High Court, bail last week.
The father of four is accused of causing Anthony Dinnegan, a father in his 30s, critical injuries including to his bowel, lung and liver.
That resulted in charges of assault causing harm, threatening to kill or cause serious harm and the production of a black handled kitchen knife during a dispute, on August 2, at Austin Friar Street being issued against him.
He was further charged with a series of road traffic offences, including travelling in a stolen Mercedes at Cloncollig Roundabout, Tullamore, County Offaly on August 7.
Two weeks ago, Mr Nevin Jnr was also charged with the attempted murder of Mr Dinnegan and violent disorder.
When the case returned before Judge Bernadette Owens last week, defence solicitor Louis Kiernan said Mr Nevin Jnr had been denied bail in the High Court.
Sgt Paul McNally addressed the court to reveal that, despite directions being outstanding from the DPP, it was “highly likely” further charges would be issued.
As a result, he asked for a one-week adjournment to allow Mr Nevin Jnr be produced.
“That would make sense if there is a further charge,” said Mr Kiernan.
Judge Owens remanded Mr Nevin Jnr in custody for a further week ahead of a scheduled reappearance this Thursday (October 17).
