New LWETB board appointed, as new chair takes up role
Longford and Westmeath Education and Training Board (LWETB) have announced the completion of the 2019-2024 term by the outgoing board, and the appointment of a new board for the term 2024-2029.
Officials extended gratitude to the outgoing board members “for their unwavering dedication and strategic leadership over the past five years”.
“Under their stewardship, the LWETB have navigated numerous challenges and embraced significant opportunities, ensuring the delivery of quality education and training services to communities across both counties,” a statement read.
The outgoing Board members are: Cllr Aoife Davitt (chairperson), Cllr Gerry Hagan (deputy chairperson), Cllr Frankie Keena, Cllr Pat O’Toole, Luke Casserly, Donie Cassidy, Cllr John Dolan, Cllr Michael Dollard, Josephine Donohue, Niamh Ginnell, Cllr Ken Glynn, Colm Harte, Cllr Louise Heavin, Cllr Denis Leonard, Kathleen McGahern, Mark Murphy, Cllr Garry Murtagh, Cllr Peggy Nolan, Mary O’Brien, Cllr Emily Wallace Colin Whyte.
The LWETB statement continued: “As the LWETB look to the future, the new board members are poised to build on the foundation laid by their predecessors. With a diverse range of expertise and a shared vision for advancing education and training services, they are committed to driving innovation and inclusivity across the region.”
The new board members are: Cllr Aoife Davitt (chairperson), Cllr Niall Gannon (deputy chairperson), Cllr Alfie Devine, Cllr John Dolan, Cllr Michael Dollard, Cllr Ken Glynn, Cllr Frankie Keena, Cllr Denis Leonard, Cllr Emily Wallace, Cllr Padraig McNamara, Cllr Peggy Nolan, Cllr Pat O’Toole, Owen Catterall, Sheila Corcoran, Mark Murphy, Joanna Cosgrove, Donie Cassidy, Luke Casserly Olivia Callaghan Colm Harte.
The transition marks a significant time for the LWETB as chief executive Liz Lavery retired in early October 2024.
“Liz has been a pivotal leader, helping the LWETB achieve numerous goals over the years. Her dedication and strong leadership have left a lasting impact on the organisation and the communities we serve.
“The board and staff of the LWETB expressed gratitude to Liz, wishing her all the best in her well-deserved retirement. Following her departure, Brian Higgins was announced as the chief executive (acting), stepping in to lead the organisation through this period of change.”
