Go Games

Two Saturday's ago saw the concluding round of Go Games take place, with hurling blitzes held across the county. Westmeath GAA would like to thank our staff for organising the Go Games programme over the year. Thanks to all host clubs, coaches and referees for the running of these games, and most importantly for the players taking part.

Transition Year Courses

Since the resumption of the school year, Westmeath GAA have rolled out a number of courses in the local schools. Young Whistlers courses have taken place in Mercy Kilbeggan, St. Josephs Rochfortbridge and Loretto Mullingar, in addition to an Introduction to Gaelic Games Course in Moate CS. Thanks to our staff members for running the courses and to all the student who have taken part so far.

First Year Blitzes

Pairc Chiarain Athlone hosted a first year hurling blitz on Wednesday morning with 8 teams from 4 schools taking part. Well done to the players and teachers from Colaiste Mhuire Mullingar, Columba College Killucan, Marist College and Moate CS on taking part and thanks to coordinator Kevin Jordan for running the blitz smoothly.

Blitzes for first year footballers take place this Thursday across numerous venues with 28 teams from 9 schools taking part.

Award 1 Dual Course

An Award 1 Dual course will take place in November and December for coaches in Westmeath. The dates for the course are as follows-

Introduction & OTU Model (Online): 6th November (7.00pm - 9.30pm)

Technical Proficiency & Tactical Prowess (In person): 16th November (9.30am - 3:30pm)

Team Play, Playing Facts & Psychological Focus (In person): 30th November (9.30am - 3:30pm)

Communication & Role of the Coach (Online): 4th December (7:00pm - 9:30pm)

Role of the Coach & Conclusion (In person): 7th December, (9:30am - 1:30pm)

Any coach wishing to sign up must have previously completed the foundation or Introduction to Gaelic Games Course. Club coaching officers have been provided with the sign-up link so please check with them if interested.
