Best ever event raises €4000

Pink Ribbon coffee morning

Around 250 attended the annual Pink Ribbon coffee morning in Cullion clubhouse, Mullingar, on Friday October 11, which raised in the region of €4,000.

This is the fifth year of the coffee morning and the proceeds go towards cancer research, awareness and providing supports for those who are going through or have experienced breast cancer.

Marie O’Toole, chairperson of the organising committee, said this was their best year so far, and they had a record turnout on a "really fun day", the fine weather adding to the enjoyment.

Westmeath Rose, Grace O’Connor, was special guest at the coffee morning and she presented the raffle prizes and mingled with the guests.

"Grace gave a sense of occasion to the event, and it was great to have her there on the day," Marie said.

There were lots of raffle prizes and spot prizes and Marie thanked all who donated prizes and supported the raffle. For the first time ever, the committee had cashless options for people to donate by tap or QR code.

She thanked Cullion hurling club for "generously giving us the use of the clubhouse so it is a cost neutral event". There was a splendid array of home baking for the guests to enjoy with their tea or coffee and Marie thanked all those who supplied "these goodies" and all who attended.

The committee members behind the event include Marie O’Toole, Miriam Finn, Geraldine Ring, Freda O’Dowd, Susan Reynolds, Mary Bourke-Walker, Bernie Mulligan, Teresa Horan, Antoinette Leahy and Liz Brady.
