Book on 50 years of Mullingar Harriers

Work on a new book to commemorate the Mullingar Harriers 50th anniversary next year is making good progress. It will feature interviews with club members, past and present, who have made their mark on and off the track, and look back at the five decades since the club was formed in December 1975.

The club’s various PROs over the years were meticulous record keepers and thanks to John Mulvihill and more recently Declan Costello, there are plenty of photographs chronicling club history.

The sub-committee putting the book together will also use the book published to mark the club’s 25th anniversary in 2000, edited by the late Joe Weafer.

Historian Jason McKevitt, a club member, is writing a number of articles for the book, including A Brief History of Knockdrin Athletic Club, one of the most successful athletic clubs in the midlands in the 1940s and 1950s.

If anyone has any photos or other mementos relating to Knockdrin AC, Jason would love to include them with his piece. The sub-committee would like to hear from anyone who has old Harriers pictures, or past or present members who would like to contribute to the book, including memories of their time in the club.
