Mullingar PickleMix travel to Moate for first official match

Mullingar Tennis Club notes

Ten members of Mullingar PickleMix traveled to Moate on Saturday November 16, for their first official match. These players have been practicing regularly, with PickleMix, a mixed men’s and women’s pickleball, gaining popularity in Mullingar, Multyfarnham, and nearby areas.

Pickleball is the world’s fastest-growing sport, known for being easier on the body compared to tennis or badminton, making it appealing to all ages. It’s also very easy to learn, with most players able to start after just 15-30 minutes of practice.

The day began with fun mix-and-match games that everyone enjoyed. For the final half-hour, the teams faced off in a friendly but competitive format, with 8-minute games to ensure a good mix of play.

After four rounds of intense competition, Moate emerged victorious with 156 points, while Mullingar scored 132. Despite not winning, the Mullingar team had a great time playing a sport they love with friends and teammates.

The Mullingar PickleMix team included Joe Wall, Nuala Lawyer, Eilis Dolan, Vincent Dolan, Bernadette Carroll, Eileen Murphy, Orla Murphy, Cally O’Donovan, and Mandy Kerroum. Congratulations to all for their sportsmanship and competitive spirit.

Pickleball continues every Tuesday at 10am in the badminton hall at Mullingar Tennis and Badminton Club, and everyone is welcome to join in this fun and social sport.

Friday Junior Tennis Nights continue to grow in popularity

Mullingar Tennis Club’s Friday Junior Tennis Nights have become a weekly highlight, attracting young players aged 14 to 19. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced player looking to improve, the sessions provide a welcoming environment. Rackets are available for those who don’t have their own equipment, ensuring everyone can participate.

The sessions are free for club members, and non-members can join for just €2 per session, making it an affordable way to enjoy tennis. The event is led by the club’s Junior Boy and Girl captains, Charlie Dupuis and Noor Elamin, who are passionate about promoting tennis and creating a social space for young people to connect.

Held every Friday from 5to 7pm, these sessions offer an excellent opportunity for young people to get active in a fun, social setting. Players of all levels can engage in both competitive matches and casual rallies, learning from each other in the process.

If you or someone you know would like to join, stop by the club on a Friday evening and get involved.

Christmas parties

Fergus Murphy has organised a Junior Christmas party for Sunday December 8 at Mullingar Tennis Club. It promises to be a fun event where young players can celebrate the festive season with their tennis friends.

On Saturday December 14, the Club Adult Christmas party will be held at Canton Casey’s pub in Mullingar. After the success of the Halloween party, this event is expected to be another enjoyable occasion. Tennis is not only about what happens on the court, but also about building relationships off it.
