McCaul’s ‘Christmas Exhibition' includes limited edition prints
Padraig McCaul’s ‘Christmas Exhibition’ at the Mullingar Park Hotel features new original oil paintings, limited edition prints, wax hurricane lanterns and art cards.
It will be Padraig’s third time exhibiting in the hotel since he moved to Mullingar from Achill with his family in 2021.
It will be the last show of a busy year, the highlights of which included a solo show in July with the Doorway Gallery in Dublin and an exhibition at Art Source in the RDS, Dublin.
In September Padraig was announced as the 2024 winner of the St Patrick’s Mental Health Services Favourite Painting Competition.
Like previous years, this year’s event featured artworks submitted by a number of well-known Irish art galleries. Service users, staff, and visitors are invited to view the exhibition in the Arts Space of St Patrick’s University Hospital (SPUH) or online, and to vote for their preferred artwork.
The weekend’s exhibition in the Mullingar Park Hotel is an opportunity to see why people were so drawn to Padraig’s evocative, colour filled paintings, and to pick up a limited edition fine art print or even a sought after original piece.
Padraig’s paintings are inspired by the landscapes and coastline of Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way.
Achill Island, where Padraig lived for 10 years, has had a profound influence on his paintings, which are inspired by the natural beauty and colour of the surrounding landscape.
Using familiar themes of west of Ireland cottages and old farmhouses, and his signature figurative work, each painting is filled with an abundance of colour and life. Outward looking, bright, open landscapes are contrasted with more personal, inward looking figurative pieces.
Padraig is a full time artist who moved in 2021 with his family from Achill Island to Mullingar.
He has exhibited internationally in London, Amsterdam, New York and Australia and holds regular exhibitions in Ireland with galleries in Dublin and along the west coast.
