History to be dug up in Milltownpass
A little bit of history will be dug up at Milltownpass on Sunday January 5, when former members of the original Milltownpass Scout Group meet at St Joseph’s Church in the village to recover a time capsule buried in the church grounds on January 1,
2000.
Twenty five years ago children (now adults in their 30s) buried the capsule with mementos of lives and times at the turn of the century.
More than 30 families were involved then and contact is currently being made with them ahead of the big dig.
The event on January 5 should be an exciting one for the former Scouts and their families as old friendships will be renewed among those present on the day – those who are no longer with us will also be remembered on the day.
It is hoped that two senior members from the head office of what was then the Catholic Boy Scouts of Ireland will attend.
The Milltownpass Group was set up in 1995 and there were more than 20 Beaver Scouts at the first official meeting in October 1996.
The original leaders were Nigel Boardman (RIP), Loreto Flanagan and Peter Corroon.
Loreto and Peter and the leaders from 2000 look forward to welcoming back old friends to meet at Milltownpass Church at 2pm on Sunday January 5; refreshments will be served afterwards in the community centre, where some old photos and mementos will be on display.
If you were one of the children who put something the time capsule, the organisers hope to see you on January 5.
