Christmas dinner for 100 at The Downs
A hundred people sat down to Christmas dinner with The Downs Active Retirement Group on Sunday week last, December 8. Damien Murtagh and colleagues on the organising team welcomed their guests and expressed their gratitude to their supporters.
“We would like to thank everyone in Mullingar and surrounding areas for all their spot prizes and all their help over the years. We’re 14 years now going at this, and I’d especially like to thank Sharon Crowley and Carly Kelly for their help in doing the decorations and giving us a hand in the hall.
“They’ve done serious work for us. They’re not here today, but I’d like to say thanks to them, and to all our members here, and all those who have done serious work over the year, putting the money together for this and to do the hall.”
Damien also thanked The Downs GAA for use of the premises, and David Smyth Catering. “It’s brilliant what he and his team do – when they say they’re coming on time, they’re here on time – and everything else as well.
“I really would like to thank the people in Mullingar for the spot prizes, there are too many to mention, but I really would like to thank them, they know who they are.
“The people here enjoy the day and they always look forward to it. It’s great to see, it’s absolutely brilliant. People will be ringing and saying how much they like coming to us. They come from different areas, they see friends they haven’t seen, people they played football with, that sort of thing. This is year 14, and we’re looking forward to year 15.”
