Record crowds at Goal Mile in Mullingar Shamrocks

There was a wonderful response to the Goal Mile at Springfield, the home of Mullingar Shamrocks, on Christmas morning with many familiar faces returning for the popular charity fundraising event.

There were also lots of newcomers to support a very worthy cause and help those in need at what can be a very difficult time of the year.

The generations were spanned, the dogs were rewarded with a Christmas stroll. A few referees used the occasion to limber up for the new season with new rules and Mullingar's Gerry Dalton, who ran that brilliant 2.36 marathon back in 1979, took to the track again. As usual, Brian Fagan and Ruth Illingworth were on hand to make sure the GOAL mile ran smoothly.
