Coralstown gets cultivated at fundraising tractor run!

The tractors that gathered at Coralstown NS on Saturday evening of last week were cultivated alright, but they weren’t there to get an education!

They were there along with their drivers in a festive spirit for a fundraising run organised by the school community.

Principal Michael Ward expressed his gratitude to all those who turned out: “It’s brilliant to see the community getting so involved,” he said. “This event was designed as a fundraiser, but it’s also a wonderful family activity during the quieter week between Christmas and new year.”

Organising of the tractor run was led by Susan Glennon, a teacher at the school and a local resident from a farming family.

Susan’s father, Matt, also helped with organising the event.

“Susan’s connection to the area and her enthusiasm have been key to the success of tonight,” said Mr Ward.

The event included treats, including mince pies, chocolates, and hot drinks, prepared by staff, parents, and sponsors, and Mr Ward expressed particular thanks to the school staff who volunteered their time to assist during the school break.

“I’d like to especially thank the staff for coming out during their holidays to help with teas, coffees, and setting up this lovely spread,” he said.

“We’re also deeply grateful to our sponsors and the local businesses who supported us – there are too many to name, but their contributions have been invaluable.”

One of the highlights of the evening was the participation of parish priest, Fr Tom Gilroy, who drove one of the tractors, adding to the fun atmosphere and broad participation.

“It has created a great buzz in the community,” Mr Ward said, noting that participants reckoned that the event was one of the largest tractor runs in the area in recent times.

As the school community look forward to making plans to put the funds raised through the tractor run to good use, Mr Ward concluded: “This has been a special evening, and we can’t thank everyone enough for their generosity and support.”
