More than 200 reports of storm damage were logged by Westmeath County Council’s Severe Weather Assessment Team on Friday.
The reports related to fallen trees, slates off roofs, electrical wires brought down and other damage to private and public property.
Westmeath County Council crews commenced working on responding to the issues once the red warning had ended and it was assessed safe to mobilise in the orange warning. There were a significant number of unreported issues (trees down) to be dealt with also.
Initial focus on clearing the national road and regional road network in the daylight hours on Friday..
A resumption of clearance continued today (Saturday), with a focus on priority concerns. It is also planned to work Sunday to clear issues.
The public has been advised that due to the large volume of issues reported and the ongoing weather conditions this work will take time. Every effort will be made to resolve the issues as soon as possible whilst ensuring the safety of staff and members of the public.
