Westmeath GAA confirm committees for year ahead
Westmeath County Committee chairman Frank Mescall announced some of the committees who will operate in the coming year at last Wednesday’s meeting in the Mullingar Park Hotel.
The Competitions Control Committee (CCC), a key committee for organising fixtures and dealing with discipline, is as follows:
Frank Mescall (chair), Keith Quinn (secretary), Brendan Shaw, Patrick Doherty, John Cunningham, Paddy Wallace, Gerry Farrelly, Paul Murray, Niall O’Brien (Shandonagh), Seán Carroll. The Coiste na nÓg Secretary, when appointed, will be added to the CCC, plus one other member.
On the Management Committee, Sinead Kiernan (St Malachy’s) has joined as the new Training and Planning Officer. Other additions since County Convention are as follows:
Children’s Officer: Irene Connell. LGFA rep: Paula Finnan. Camogie rep: Karen Goldrick. Health and Wellbeing Officer: Anne Gavin.
The new Football Committee chairman is Niall O’Brien (Shandonagh); secretary is Liam Daly.
Hurling Committee: Willie Murphy (Chairman).
A new Demographics Officer is yet to be appointed at a later date as Donie Malone has stepped away. The officer is now part of management.
Hearings Committee
The Hearings Committee consists of Michael McHugh (chairman), Nollaig McEntegart (secretary), Harry Mooney, Matt Scally, John Julian, Jim Rock, Eddie Newman, Tom Keegan and Éamonn Clarke.
Football and hurling managements
It was confirmed that Ruairí Gibney has joined up with Seoirse Bulfin’s senior hurling backroom team and will assist Michael Frawley in strength and conditioning. Performance coach is Peter Walsh, with Alan Bracken as stats/analysis man. Paul Murray is the coordinator. Selectors are David O’Reilly and Shane O’Brien, who are also coaches, and Philip Gilsenan. David Bulfin is goalkeeper coach.
The senior football management team includes Dermot McCabe, with selectors/coaches Mark McHugh, Diarmuid Scullion, Niall O’Brien and Damien Healy. Tomas Mount (stats/analysis), Marius Gavin and Phelim Reilly (coordinators) complete the backroom team.
The U20 hurling management includes Jody Murray (manager) with selectors/coaches Barry Kennedy, Darragh Egerton, John Molloy and Emmet Corrigan. Kit and stats man: Michael Murray.
